Peace Out 2014 from YummoMummo x

Photo credit 'Hello Am' shop on Etsy.
www.etsy.com

As we turn the corner and head into 2015, I have much excitement for the year ahead. It's going to be   a good one for YummoMummo, I can feel it in my bones. I have an endless blog list and drafts started of some super fun posts that I really hope will entertain, enlighten and inspire you for 2015. YummoMummo started as a journey for myself in the hope to inspire you with my love of Styling.
Styling represents, to me, the chance to have fun and do something that makes me feel good.

I think my styling light got turned on when I had kids. As a Mum (Mom) to three little ones,  I felt I needed to be conscious to give back to myself, and it all started with something as simple as lipstick. And for you, it doesn't' have to be lipstick.  Giving back to yourself could be in many other ways. Either feeding yourself the gift of soaking in the bath with a glass of wine and a good book, sitting in the sunshine with a latte and a gossip magazine, taking a steam in the sauna and using the time to just be completely disconnected from electronics and the ability to talk to anyone,  or making sure you schedule in that pedicure (don't forget the foot massage). So many ideas.

I think the above quote I have included really spoke to me. My YummoMummo journey has been a path of faith, faith in myself. I've felt at times that I have really put myself out there, but I knew that what I was doing was important to me, and I finally let go.  Throughout the past 6 months, I have had so  many messages of encouragement and these have helped me keep going. As I always say in  my posts, I am not a trained photographer or trained in how to pose for photos but it's important to me to be authentic and show you how a real Mum/woman, just like you, can do it. I don't have a budget to work with and this body is typical of one that's blessed me three kids. I'm just like everyone else!

But my point is,  FILL YOUR CUP. No one else but you is going to know if your thirsty and need filling. So make YOU a priority and if you have not, start thinking for 2015 what YOU want to achieve, what's important to YOU!

I would really love to hear from you how I have helped inspire you on the YummoMummo journey. I know some of you started dabbling in Denim on Denim, picked up some Christmas Sweaters or Christmas pajamas, pulled out your lipsticks and bought yourself some fabulous foundation to put under the Christmas tree.

Keep on Styling! Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah from YummoMummo.

Jewelry Organisation Project - YummoMummo Style x

I recently started getting some organization back in our house, it's our tiny little humble home so space and organization is prime.
I was searching Pinterest and came across this idea for jewelry organization, so who better to share the adventure with than my lovely YummoMummo friends, YOU!  I purchased 4 accordion hooks from Amazon for dirt cheap, $10 for four of them, that's 40 hooks! I have a range of especially chunky jewelry as I love a statement piece.  When they arrived, they were totally blah, just raw straw-colored wood. I had some gold spray paint left over from my Thanksgiving when I tricked out some pinecones for our thanksgiving table, so I saw a marriage made in heaven between my gold spray paint and the bare accordion hooks. Boom.

This is the back of one of my closet doors.
Following are the super easy steps in how to achieve this amazing project yourself. It was DEAD easy.

I purchased these accordion hooks on Amazon for $5/2 so they cost me $10.

I had some gold spray paint left over from Thanksgiving that I had purchased at Michael's craft store.

Next up, I purchased these clear strip hooks. We are in a rental so the least amount of damage on surfaces is very important! I also use these hooks to hang with the accordion hangers so i can hang my earrings on them. It makes a nice uniform row of chandelier goodness.

Here the accordion hooks are hung and ready to be blinged out, baby!

Seriously, ALL these were stuffed in my drawer. It was impossible to see the wood for the trees. But now...accessory heaven!
Any comments? You know where they go, down below!  Keep on Styling!

Vlog Alert - YummoMummo Makeup in 3 easy steps x

Big moment in YummoMummo history, folks! I did my first Vlog! Video Blog.  I wanted to show people, how to do a super quick make up routine with just 3 key makeup items from YummoMummo's daily repertoire. I know we all have very limited time,  and I want to show you how easy it can be with just three simple steps.
Since I am just starting to get my feet wet in the Vlog world, I can assure you, my Vlog's will get better as I learn more about what to do/not to do. Until a few days ago, I had never used iMovie and it was another notch in my YummoMummo journey belt.
I hope you enjoy my fun beginning of the Vlog, I wanted it to remind you how to have fun with style and in anything that you do. And what does an Aussie sound like after she's been gone from her homeland for 14 years and in America the last 7? You'll just have to watch to find out.
So I am putting myself out there for you my friends and owning it, to be true to my cause of authenticity.

I have on JUST an awesome foundation, a mega fabuloso mascara and my favorite lipstick shade (and a touch of good lighting - thank you California sunshine). To see how I achieved this look, watch the Vlog!

I know, totally different, right? Not one ounce of make up, BUT a freshly cleansed face. I live a frantic life with three kids, I am 38 years young, and I've had my fair share of sleep deprivation, not enough water but a love of chocolate, coffee and wine because life's too short.
Alright, so if you want to see the show and watch how I made this transformation in just three easy steps, watch on! But remember, it's my first time so watch with an open heart. I know you will. If you are on mobile, head to this link to see it on You Tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h91VmCPTdzg

Christmas Pajama Love x

Ti's the season to be jolly and what better excuse to adorn some festive season pajamas. I know sweats and an old t-shirt might be in your drawer, but there is something so comforting about putting on some super soft and cozy pajamas and calling it a night.  Love Love Love me some fresh PJ's. It's especially fun to get dressed in your Christmas Pajamas on Christmas Eve, put a little beer out for Santa, carrots for his furry friends and get to sleep so Santa can deliver the presents.  He sees you when your sleeping, he knows when your awake (so be rock'n those cute Christmas PJ's for him.)

Target has some great Christmas Pajama's so I wanted to show you a couple of pairs I thought were just too cute not to share.

I love the flora design of the pajamas, they remind me of Australian wattle,  but red!
Kiss me Goodnight Pajamas. $24.

Yes, please. Just a little reminder for my special man.
How darn cute are these Elf Pajama's. These are sure to get you in the Christmas spirit, especially on Christmas Eve when Santa could probably use your help delivering those presents.
Gillian and O'Malley Elf Pajama Set. $17.

I don't know about you, but I'm sporting some socks in bed at night now as it's getting more chilly at night. Despite my thermal bedsheets! So look at these Slipper Socks from Target, you'll get extra points from Santa for being so in the Xmas spirit!

Style on a Budget: Costco for $35 x

This month's Style on a Budget is bought to you from Costco. Over the years, I have found some great outfits in Costco and at the Costco price which just can't be beat. For an item to be sold on Costco shelves, it goes through a gruelling process and only a VERY select few make the cut, so when I am in Costco, it's well worth the look. I have a pair of Yoga pants I purchased over a year ago from Costco shelves and they would have to be hands down one of my most worn items of comfort clothing. I have also spotted the odd stock of NYDJ and you know what a fan I am of NYDJ, they normally retail at $120+ but Ive seen them for $30 so I'll be sure to keep my eye out for them again.

I love this reversible wrap by Ike Behar ($15). One side is a very eye appealing Houndstooth and the reverse side is a beautifully simple jet black, a very versatile piece that is sure to keep you warm and also go with many outfit combinations. On a side note for my fellow Australian crowd - when I see Houndstooth, I always think of David Jones. For my international crowd - David Jones is a department store (similar to Nordstrom) that used a Houndstooth design on their shopping bags, so I get flashbacks with Houndstooth designs. In my photos below, I have paired it with a chambray shirt and then a white tank top underneath.  All photos are with the second half of my style on a budget outfit - Calvin Klein Ponte Pant in the color Cranberry ($20).  What a wonderful color choice for the festive season, Cranberry will take you from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I've paired the outfits with some items I already had in my wardrobe - my Steve Madden boots, Steve Madden knee high speckled Cream knitted socks, and my Old Navy chambray shirt/white tank top. Boom. It's that easy.

I have paired the wrap here with a chambray shirt, if you have read my post/s "Denim on Denim" you will see how a chambray shirt has to make your staples in your closet. You can find a chambray shirt anywhere, so go find the one that works for you! My is an Old Navy purchase a while back, it's worn well.

I live in California and the weather year round is magnifique! So wearing a sleeveless tank top underneath is totally acceptable.

I am wearing a trend this season that I have enjoyed playing with . If you read my post on 'Shark Bite' Sweater, you will see I talked about pairing your boots with knee-high knit socks - very Clueless from the 90's. Here I am wearing some Steve Madden Knit Socks in a speckled cream. Love!
Calvin Klein Ponte Pants in Cranberry (great holiday season color). $20.

Thanksgiving Sales - Outlet Style x

I have been wanting to make a trip to the outlets forever so I grabbed a girlfriend and we shopped till we dropped. Being YummoMummo, you can imagine I was busting to share with you what I found and at amazing prices. Tourists flock from miles and other countries with empty suitcases to troll the Outlets for amazing deals to be fashionably found.  I had just been through my wardrobe and done a massive re-organiation/cull, so I certainly knew in my mind what needed updating and replacing.
I didn't get much, only 4 items from 3 stores. But, it's all about quality, not quantity when it comes to building your wardrobe. So what did I get, I hear you say? Well,  a totally comfortable and practical sweater cardigan and infinity scarf, a very edgy fleather sleeve knit top and some killer heels for some fun on my next date night or night on the town. (Since I bought them, I have now booked date night with my darling husband).

Nine West Heleneo Black SU Pump Heel. You know I love a bit of leopard print AND I love things a bit different, so this was a good shake up on the regular black heel. $42.
www.ninewest.com

Next up, a Fleather (fake leather) 3/4 sleeved top from Ann Taylor. Retails for $89, YummoMummo price was $32. Super comfortable, edgy and stylish. The cream knit feels like great quality, I think this top is going to wear VERY well. This sweater could be more versatile than it looks. It's more dressy with the fleather sleeves but you could wear it totally dressy or more casual. I am wearing it with a black pencil skirt and heels, but to dress it down,  I would wear it with some boyfriend jeans and my cheetah slip on flats or a simple black ballet flat.  And at the price, it's not too precious a piece to worry about saving for special occasions. Note: this really didn't look fabulous on the hanger so it's an example of trying it on despite that, as I found a gem!

I needed to replace my cream sweater cardigan that I had from donkey's years ago.  Now my little one sleeps with my old one as a security blanket. I love versatility in an item of clothing. This sweater cardigan is an extremely soft knit. It's 55% cotton, 25% acrylic and 20% nylon. I like that the sleeves were also a little longer so I can pull them a bit over my hands when I'm outside in the cold.
I think the sweater and the infinity scarf go great together or separate. Together they feel like a beautifully warm hug, a sweater and scarf combo are good for the soul on the cold days. Both from Loft.  Loft sweater was $60, down to $30.
www.loft.com
Scarf from Loft, originally $40, down to $20. 100% acrylic.

So my shopping trip only cost me $124 by going to the outlets and taking advantage of the Thanksgiving sales. Hope you enjoyed my sharing what I purchased.

The Xmas sweater - now stylish! x

The Christmas countdown has begun and we couldn't let the season pass without paying homage to the honorable Christmas Sweater. It has gotten a bad reputation over the years, so I wanted to see if I can change some thoughts on this and show you some super cute winter sweaters for the season 2014!
It's only fitting that I adorn one of these festive fashions myself. My journey for christmas sweater heaven was enjoyable and playing with how I could dress it, well, that's what YummoMummo does so well, styling! I've chosen a super cute Reindeer Christmas sweater by Jolt. It's current and at Nordstrom Rack www.nordstromrack.com for $22.95. And at that price, everyone can afford to get in the Christmas spirit.

My super cute choice of Xmas sweater. It's a great example of a Christmas sweater that doesn't scream "Ugly Christmas sweater". How can a cute reindeer be ugly?

If you read my blog post on "Shark Bite Sweater", you will know I talked about the knee-high sock trend we are seeing this Fall/Winter. Here I am in my Steve Madden Knee-High Cable Knit socks in Speckled Cream. $7. Nordstrom Rack.

Following is a fun idea if you want to take the ugliness into your own hands and have some control. This sweater comes simply as a red blank canvas and with the shown embellishments. You can choose how you want to decorate it, go crazy and make and it as understated or as blinged out as you possibly want. The uglier, the better.
Olivia and Vivien Make Your Own Ugly Sweater Kit, $20
www.nordstromrack.com
And being a blonde myself, I just adored this sweater. Maybe I should wear it when I take the kids to visit Santa next week and see if I can get a good old chuckle out of Saint Nick! Also comes in Brunette so blondes don't take all the fun.
Ella Santa's Favourite Blonde Christmas Sweater. Comes in Brunette too! $26

So I hope I have shed a new light on the christmas sweater. Maybe one christmas season, it will call for an Ugly Sweater Party!  Egg Nog, anyone?

Style on a budget: Old Navy Fabulously $50 x

Last weekend, I got to spend my Saturday afternoon shopping my local mall so that I could bring you this month's most fabulous 'Style on a Budget' outfit. Lucky me!  As I suggested last month, I want to show you how you can find an entire outfit for not a lot of money by choosing wisely and using some key pieces from your own closet.

Chambray dress shirt ($20), tangerine ballet flat shoes ($11), cross body bag ($11) , statement necklace ($8) & a brown belt (free).

San Francisco, California!

This month, I have chosen an outfit more appropriate for the cooler months as we are now heading into Winter and looking for some warmer layers.

The Chambray dress shirt can be totally worn alone, but I chose to put it on top of a pair of darker wash jeans. If you love to show a bit of leg, then you would be able to absolutely wear it without the jeans. As I talked about in my post "Denim on Denim",  a darker wash of denim on the body part you want to flatter is suggested, for me, that's my bottom half. I'm a delicious juicy pear!

The only items that I added from my wardrobe were the jeans and the belt. The belt was from a clothing swap party I attended last Spring.  I highly suggest clothing swap parties, too much fun and you can pick up some super cute things for zero dollars.

Since I was going to pair this outfit with a colorful statement necklace, I chose to pick up the colors from the necklace in the shoes. I just adore the color, a yummy tangerine orange. I like wearing flats especially with a boot cut jean, as shown here.
VERY comfortable flats, only $10 on sale. Love the color against the darker denim!

The Chambray shirt dress is oh so versatile, wear it alone or pair it with jeans like I have. Some leggings and brown boots could be another suggestion. Brown boots would tie in really well with the thick brown belt.

The necklace was a very recent purchase in a Macy's clearance sale (so I cheated a bit outside of the Old Navy there). It was originally $50 and reduced to $8. Seriously!
Statement necklace found at Macy's sale, $50 reduced to $8, that's right ladies!

The cross body bag, in brown, picks up the brown belt. The whole outfit put together would be so perfect for strolling the Sunday morning markets,  shopping the mall with girlfriends, really just a super stylish casual outfit for the Fall/Winter months. Cool it down for the summer months by using it as swimming costume cover up!
Brown belt from my own wardrobe, picked up at girlfriends clothing swap party. Fun night! Free.

Any comments? You know where they go, down below!  Keep on Styling!

Review - Burt's Bees Lip Crayon x

I had been hearing great things about Burt's Bees Lip Crayon and was ready to give it a try for myself. As you know, I am a lipstick lover so I'm always up for trying a new lipstick, but I am also very picky when it comes to any lipstick making my list.
It was relatively inexpensive, I chose the color 'Hawaiian Smolder' and at just under $10 at CVS, I think it's reasonable. What I like most are the ingredients and I love these health facts - Phthalate-Free, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Free, Paraben-Free. It comes in six creamy, full-coverage shades of matte lip color in a modern crayon for truly beautiful lip color. Lightweight moisture for a comfortable, everyday wear formula infused with Shea Butter, Kendi Oil, and Jojoba Oil. It's color that truly cares for your lips. Some more tidbits for your reading pleasure:
• Creamy matte color and moisture-rich wear
• For everyday wear either alone or layered under a Lip Gloss or Lip Shine
• Precise application in a playful form without the hassle and mess of sharpening
• No added flavor or fragrance
• Hydrates and moisturizes lips, leaving them feeling soft and smooth

So I was all dressed up and out for the morning at a 'Gratitude Brunch' to importantly reflect how grateful I feel at this time of year as Thanksgiving is next week. And I myself, am grateful for so much, but one thing on that list is lipstick, I am grateful for how lipstick makes me feel, it makes me feel awesome!

You wind up at the end when you ready for more, just like a regular lipstick but this is in the shape of a crayon.
Burt's Bees Lip Crayon in Hawaiian Smolder.  $10. I bought mine at CVS!
And I love the tamper-free packaging.

Featured Ingredient/s
Shea Butter — Shea Butter helps to hydrate and moisturize dry lips leaving them feeling soft and smooch-worthy smooth.
Enriched with conditioning Jojoba Oil and Kendi Oil, which are chock full of Omega 3 to hydrate and moisturize lips. And don't forget the Shea Butter for an extra dose of moisture.
Ingredients / Ingrédients: ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, candelilla cera (euphorbia cerifera wax, cire de candelilla), cera alba (beeswax, cire d'abeille), cera carnauba (copernicia cerifera wax, cire de carnauba), butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, hydrogenated vegetable oil, aleurites moluccana seed oil*, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, tocopherol, lecithin, silica, glycine soja (soybean) oil. +/- (May contain / Peut contenir): CI 77891 (titanium dioxide), CI 77019 (mica), CI 75470 (carmine), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (iron oxides) *kendi oil

I feel naked without my lipstick on. I am wearing Hawaiian Smolder.

Here I am after wearing it a few hours. Still subtly there.
There is no fragrance and it survived the morning well. Our lips are busy things and we need a lipstick that will stick with us through the morning. Mine enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee, a yummy glass of Mimosa at the brunch, some delicious snacks and a loving kiss goodbye from my husband! I think it is perfect for a person who is wanting a subtle lipstick that ticks all the boxes in the way of ingredients and philosophy. I would be keen to try their darker/redder tones as that's more my style but this is what they had on the stand at time I purchased.

Got a comment? You know where it goes, down below! Keep on Stylin!

*Disclosure - I am not asked by Burt's Bees or paid to write about this Burt's Bees product. I write whole-heartily from my own free will and experience.

Wardrobe Work x

I was asked to go through a wardrobe and it was truly so much fun, I just had to share.
Our goal was to go through her entire wardrobe including clothing and accessories and see -
  • what items she liked/ felt good wearing (this shows and is important)
  • what was outdated/ill-fitting/had lost shape
  • what items she simply hadn't worn for many seasons or was pre-pre-pre kids
  • some tips on the best way to dress for her body shape
  • what staples she did(n't) have
  • what items could be updated e.g a fresh white tee
  •  And lastly, assess her accessory situation i.e what she did(n't)  have. And how to best utilize the accessories she has.  Accessories are a HUGE asset when it comes to your wardrobe. Trust me, I'm the Accessories Queen, read my "Im the Accessories Queen" post!!
Simply put, she is a busy Mum (Mom) to three little ones and needs to know what she can wear and feel fabulous in, in a New York minute.  I decided to make three piles-
  1. Items to keep
  2. Items to donate or save for a 'clothing swap'.
  3. Items that can be simply and inexpensively altered. Here you have to decide if the piece is of good enough value to alter it, or you might as well simply buy it again. Eg, it's worth altering a $200 pair of jeans vs altering a $20 shirt.
Another idea instead of donating, is to put aside your clothes and organize a night with your girlfriends for a good old "Clothing Swap". We all have things in our closets that we think would look great on our girlfriends and vice versa. I myself, have picked up some amazingly fun jackets from a clothing swap. And don't just stop at clothes, add jewelry and handbags, shoes, scarves etc, your children's' clothing. As we went through her closet, we wrote down staples that could be added to her wardrobe or pieces that needed to be freshened up.  I wanted to show her the different outfits she could make with her "keep" items so we decided to document below how we have taken some items and worked on how they can be worn different ways.   I really think it's beneficial to photograph and document your own outfits (you could either do this by laying them out on the bed or actually photograph yourself wearing them). If you are ever stuck for what to wear that day, think of it as your 'cheat sheet'.

I just adored this midnight blue sweater with a golden burnt orange oriental design. Here we have dressed it up and then worn it more casually, by adding the denim jacket and swapping out the heels for flats.
And again, with the same sweater, to make it more casual, we 'prepped' it out by draping it over her shoulders but still seeing the gorgeous design from behind. And by adding cheetah slip on sneakers! Since there is so much space between the two prints, they are not competing.

We have the same camo top and jeggings changing from 'day to night'. We switched out the sneakers for heels, added a black statement necklace, changed out the jacket and earrings and voila..... from the school run to drinks with the girls!

This black dress is a true staple in her closet and she's had it for many moons. Here she is wearing it casually, two different ways.
Here you can see by taking a basic base of a pencil skirt and a denim shirt and adding high heels and this fabulously fun fur jacket, she's ready to go and have some fun! The shirt could be tucked in or tied.

A favorite dress of hers. She normally wears it like on the left, which I think is super cute and comfortable. On the right, we switched out the shoes for cheetah flats, and added a denim jacket with maroon embellished flower for another way to wear the dress casually.
Here we had some more fun with the black dress. On the left, she is ready to rock the Sunday morning markets. On the right, we added the fun fur vest and a pop of color in the red shoes for something really different.

We really hope you enjoyed seeing the wardrobe transformation. It was so much fun that it wouldn't be right if I didn't share it.  Big shout out to the lovely lady, Suze,  in the photos for letting me share her particular experience with you all.

Any commments? You know where they go, down below. Keep on Stylin!
